Cast iron and steel radiators accumulate layers of old paint, rust and corrosion over decades. Shot blasting is the most effective method for stripping all coatings and rust back to bare metal — restoring the radiator to a clean substrate ready for priming and repainting.
Many older cast iron radiators have multiple layers of lead-based paint. Shot blasting removes lead paint safely. All spent abrasive and dust is collected and disposed of as hazardous waste in accordance with current regulations.
Cast iron must be primed within 4 hours of blasting to prevent flash rusting. We recommend a zinc phosphate primer as the first coat. We can coordinate with your painting contractor or provide a combined service.
